Hex Digit is the noise project of David Lowell Nepsky, an experimental musician, visual artist, and culture critic based between the Four Corners region and Southwest Florida.
Nepsky is a skilled black and white photographer and expert in film development, with early recognition as "Photographer of the Year" in high school. He holds a degree in media criticism and propaganda analysis from USC School of Cinematic Arts. Currently working in the mediums of xerox art, zine publishing, culture criticism, art curating, and fashion criticism—championing one-of-a-kind craftsmanship against fast fashion and disposable culture.
He served as the first Public Information Officer in Telluride, Colorado, where he became FEMA-certified in IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert and Warning System). His pioneering work in emergency communications became a major inspiration for how San Miguel County operates its public information systems today.
Active in noise since the late 2010s, Hex Digit creates harsh, psychedelic sound informed by Thelemic philosophy and industrial aesthetics. Artwork and cassette design concepts—including tape shell design—are actualized by longtime friend and professional skateboarder Cyrus Bennett. The project releases primarily through Solium Records, a French experimental/noise netlabel. The debut double release of "Sixteen" (Tx$005) and "Dead Inside" (Tx$006) arrived December 25, 2018, followed by "Neptunium" (2019). Hex Digit also appears on the "Ex-Terminis" compilation (2020), a co-release between Solium Records (France) and Light Item (Italy), contributing the track "Slave Rave," and on Worm Monolith's "Khaos I" (2020).
Nepsky performs as one third of WRINKLES, a harsh noise trio alongside Anthony (2360, DFFDL) and Ben (Bespoke Decay, Melbourne), with releases on Self Trepanation / Cursed Earth Cassette (Australia). He is a music journalist covering experimental and industrial scenes for Discipline Magazine, and publisher of FAUN FANZINE, a quarterly DIY culture critique publication.
